Shenzhen Special Economic Zone borders to be removed
January 16, 2018
The Chinese government has issued a circular revoking the borders of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone to promote integrated development of the region. The city had separated the special economic zone from other areas by setting up a management line in 1982. Till 2005, there were 16 checkpoints along the line, requiring identification documents for entry.
The circular urged South China’s Guangdong provincial government and Shenzhen authorities to carry out unified management of urban and rural areas of Shenzhen city, optimize the layout of urban functions, improve transportation infrastructure, intensify environmental protection, and enhance public services supply, while handling the revocation-related work.
The relationship between Hong Kong and Guangdong should be enhanced after revoking the border lines, the circular said.
